Madison’s Churchkey bar has closed, according to WMTV15. The business on University Avenue has been in operation for decades and represents the latest in a string of bar closures downtown.
Just down the street, however, a new bar called Moon Bar is set to open in the former Danny’s Pub space. The business will offer live music, DJs and a full dinner menu in addition to beverages.
Jason Ilstrup, president of Downtown Madison Inc., said the downtown evolution is natural.
“Downtowns by nature are very organic. You see a lot of change,” he said. “These are beloved institutions in the downtown and in our whole community, but … those changes bring new locations and new ideas and new retail and restaurants.”
