East side Madison’s CocoVaa chocolate business has launched at $500,000 crowd-funding campaign with the goal of purchasing or building a 5,000-square-foot facility to increase production, The Capital Times reports.

Owner Syovata Edari says that expansion of the business is currently limited by its space. CocoVaa began in a nanofactory on Sherman Terrace in 2016 and later moved to a storefront designed and built out by Edari in the Marling Building at 1815 E. Washington Ave.

A $3,000 GoFundMe campaign during the first summer of the pandemic allowed for the addition of a dessert window. Edari also received grants, including $50,000 from the Urban League of Greater Madison in 2022.

CocoVaa’s current space, closed for the month of August, is 1,400 square feet with a 500-square-foot production kitchen. Edari’s lease is not up until June 2025.
