A global shortage of software chips and other components associated with the new “flex lanes” on the Beltline highway will delay the use of the lanes until summer, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The use of inside median shoulders as part-time lanes during peak traffic times is part of a $45.1 million project that addressed deteriorating pavement, improved drainage, and replaced the Beltline’s median barrier wall. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the components for signage won’t be installed until spring and the lanes won’t be open until testing can be completed.
