Meta’s $2 billion acquisition of AI startup Manus has been squashed by China.
Morning Brew reported that a Chinese regulator blocked the acquisition while it was already underway.
Manus had relocated to Singapore last year. According to the report, China also banned to Manus executive from leaving the country, and is using the move to keep other AI companies from relocating and sharing AI tools with the U.S.
Meta pursued the acquisition to bolster its AI offerings. Meta said it hopes to resolve the issue and complete the acquisition.
