Representatives of the Madison Children’s Museum, 100 N. Hamilton St., are proposing to replace an unstable 69-slot parking structure at Hamilton and Dayton streets with more usable visitor space.

Preliminary plans presented to the Urban Design Commission include replacing the museum’s parking structure with a one-story building that will better integrate its children’s activity areas. Plans also include adding a loading dock and making other infrastructure improvements, such as an elevator, to improve the visitor experience.

The museum’s most interesting feature could be a new exhibit space that includes a 75-foot-tall climbing sculpture designed in Dr. Seuss style that would offer young climbers a view of Madison’s downtown.
