The Madison Children’s Museum is applying for a permanent liquor license so it can more easily provide drinks for after-hours third-party events it plays host to.
Obtaining this license will allow the children’s museum more flexibility for hosting its own events, although the primary reason it’s being pursued is to improve service to third-party events, mainly by allowing a cash bar option.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Mayor Paul Soglin, citing a council override of his earlier veto for a liquor license for the Goodman Community Center, vowed not to fight this request.
The children’s museum, which has served alcohol during events for the past five years, is on track to host as many as 71 events this year, and is anticipating as many as 80 after-hours events in 2017.
