Chicago’s AbbVie to acquire Madison-based Nimble Therapeutics

Chicago-based drug company AbbVie is acquiring Madison’s Nimble Therapeutics for $200 million, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Nimble is currently developing an oral therapy to treat inflammatory bowel disease and psoriasis.

The company formed in 2019 and wasspun out of Roche Sequencing Solutions, originally NimbleGen Systems.

AbbVie, in addition to acquiring Nimble’s drug candidates, is purchasing its platform for peptide synthesis, screening, and optimization. The cash payment of $200 million will be accompanied by “certain interim funding payments,” the agreement states, and “Nimble’s shareholders remain eligible for a potential payment, subject to the achievement of a development milestone.”
