Cable company Charter Communications is laying off about 1,200 employees, Reuters reports.
The job cuts are mostly affecting corporate management positions, not sales or service roles, in a bid to streamline company operations.
Charter lost 117,000 internet customers in its second quarter, and 60,000 more in the first quarter of the year. And the company’s addition of 500,000 mobile lines in the second quarter was below expectations, according to financial data platform Visible Alpha.
Charter is planning to expand into the largest cable TV and broadband provider in the U.S. by acquiring Cox Communications for $21.9 billion. The merger will close in mid-2026 if approved by regulatory boards.
