Inflation and remote work concerns have shifted among CEOs, according to the nonpartisan, nonprofit Conference Board’s C-Suite Outlook 2022 report of CEOs in the U.S. and globally. Inflation has soared to the top tier of concerns while it was only ranked 22nd last year. Additionally, 55% of CEOs surveyed feel inflation will continue into 2023 or beyond.

The survey also found a shift in CEO attitudes about remote work. A third of CEOs expect a remote-heavy workforce after the pandemic subsides. Key findings also include:

  • U.S. CEOs ranked inflation as the second top external concern in 2022 compared to 2021 when it was ranked 23rd;
  • CEOs globally ranked inflation as second in 2022 compared to in 2021 when it ranked 22nd;
  • Fifty-nine percent of U.S. CEOs expect elevated pricing pressures until mid-2023 or beyond;
  • Fifty-five percent of CEOs globally expect elevated pricing pressures until mid-2023 or beyond;
  • U.S. CEOs ranked labor shortages as the No. 1 external threat to their business in 2022; and
  • CEOs globally ranked labor shortages third.
