The Center for Black Excellence and Culture is one step closer to completion after one of the final structural pieces was lifted into place on Wednesday, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The final beam of the facility’s 37,500-square-foot structural framework was placed at midday by construction workers from Findorff.
The center is set to be fully insulated and finished later this year. It will host Black entrepreneurs and developers; concerts, lectures, films, and theatrical productions; a gallery and library of Black art and literature; and more.
So far, 14,000 hours of construction labor have gone into The Center. Alex Gee, its founder and CEO, and other proponents have raised $30 million of the $31 million debt-free target, supported by 1,100 donors.
