Cellular Dynamics International, Madison, has formed a new company called Opsis Therapeutics that will study and fight retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosis.

CDI, acquired by Fujifilm Holdings Corp. in 2015, launched the business in partnership with David Gamm, M.D., a world leader and pioneer in the differentiation and transplantation of iPSC-derived retinal cells, according to a release.

Gamm is the director of UW–Madison’s McPherson Eye Research Institute and owns 49% of Opsis, which will operate from the CDI offices at 525 Science Drive.
