Starbucks employees from the chain’s Capitol Square location were striking today ahead of the company’s annual shareholders meeting, according to a report from Channel3000.

Organizers called the strike part of a national “day of action” among Starbucks workers at more than 100 stores across the country, a day before Starbucks’ shareholders hold their annual meeting on Thursday. The workers continue to fight recognition of their union.

Ahead of the meeting, Starbucks Workers United sent a letter to shareholders urging them to vote in favor of the Assessment of Worker Rights Commitment that will be up for a vote at the shareholders meeting.

Workers are demanding livable wages, consistent scheduling, safer workspaces, and the right to organize without fear of retaliation in the workplace.
