A month after 302 businesses have applied for the city of Madison grants to reimburse COVID-related costs or losses, more than 89% were still waiting for a decision, according to a report from The Capital Times.

The funding is being provided by the Small Business Equity & Recovery program that invites Madison business owners from historically underrepresented groups to apply for up to $5,000 in reimbursement for personal protective equipment and other virus-related safety improvements. The grant also covers up to $5,000 in revenue losses. A city representative says one factor slowing the process is that many applications require staff follow-up.
