Over $100,000 in repairs are needed to repair rapid transit lanes on Madison’s west side after the weight of new city buses deteriorated them.
Repairs should be completed today. The new buses were introduced to Madison streets in September with the launch of the Metro Transit bus rapid transit service.
City staff told The Cap Times the new buses are about 20,000 pounds heavier than Metro Transit’s previous buses, causing distressed curb areas and the current repairs.
The $114,000 cost for Whitney Way repairs comes from the city’s pavement management budget.
Wright Street, the first area to be repaired, required resurfacing of an entire intersection.
