Madison-based nonprofit Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness will receive $1 million over the next 10 years from the Mary Burke Fund for Girls and Women, according to a release from the organization. The funding will establish the Fund for Black Women’s Wellness and support the nonprofit’s operations and help expand its health promotion, education, and advocacy initiatives to improve Black women’s health outcomes.

Two years ago, Burke made an initial $50,000 gift to support the foundation’s core programming and initiatives and to seed a Women’s Opportunity and Empowerment Fund to support women in critical ways before and through the COVID-19 pandemic.
