Extremely high demand for lumber and building supplies is driving up the costs of home construction locally and across the nation, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The rising cost of materials has been largely caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and workforce shortages in many industries. The price of lumber has increased more than 350% over the last year and has added more than $35,000 to the price of an average single-family home. Other building materials including drywall, glue, foam, and microchips in many home appliances are also in short supply.
