Madison and Dane County officials are offering proposals that would close a $5.2 million funding gap for the $20 million Madison Public Market on the city’s east side, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Since the proposals amend the city and county capital budgets for 2023, approvals will be needed by the City Council and County Board.
County Board Chairman Patrick Miles offered an amendment to the county’s capital budget to borrow and deliver $1.5 million to the project. The funding would be contingent upon the city increasing its contribution to the project to fully close the gap — an additional $4 million in funding. The Dane County Finance committee will consider the amendment during the week of Nov. 7.
At the city level, Madison Alds. Regina Vidaver and Syed Abbas are planning to propose an amendment to the city’s capital budget to close the financing gap. It will be presented the week of Nov. 14.
