According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Milwaukee Brewers could begin the search for a new home this fall if state and local officials fail to reach an agreement on a taxpayer-funded package to fund improvements to American Family Field. The improvements are required in the team’s lease with the state.

A deal has not yet materialized, despite several months passing since Gov. Tony Evers proposed spending $290 million to ensure the Brewers stay in Wisconsin and Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred urged lawmakers to act quickly. Brewers officials are contemplating options in communities with fast-growing populations but currently no Major League Baseball teams.

The team’s lease with the state-funded stadium does not expire until the end of 2030, and facilitating a move could take years if the Brewers reach that point, but current talks may also pressure state legislators to act.
