Conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley announced Friday that she will not seek reelection, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Her decision not to run for a full second term creates an open race for a seat on the court that is controlled 4-3 by liberals.

Bradley’s announcement follows conservative candidates’ losses by double-digit margins in each of the two past elections for the highest court in the battleground state. Both of those races shattered national spending records.

Liberal state Supreme Court candidates have prevailed in four of the past five races and in 2023 took over the court majority to break a 15-year run of conservative control.

Regardless of the outcome of the April election, liberals will keep their 4-3 court majority until at least 2028, and a win next year would push their majority to 5-2.
