The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County received a $200,000 donation on Dec. 18 from John and Jo Ellen McKenzie to help fund a middle school mentorship program.

“Our new program with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County will help middle school kids self-explore the many in-demand, well-paid careers that they might not otherwise understand,” John McKenzie said on social media.

The program will help students select a career that sounds interesting to them. Then they are connected with mentors and school staff to help them progress through school and worksite visits.

It will “create a full-time, family-sustaining mentoring position that will expose middle school students across our county to real career opportunities, professionals and pathways for success,” Boys & Girls Club of Dane County President and CEO Michael Johnson said on social media.
