Michael Johnson, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, is interested in a Sun Prairie church property to expand the nonprofit’s reach.

According to a Wisconsin State Journalarticle, Johnson would like to convert Peace Lutheran Church at 232 Windsor St. and an adjacent parsonage to a gymnasium, daycare, and a teen center. He’d need funding help from the business community and the city of Sun Prairie to make it happen, which hasn’t yet been decided. The church will move its congregation to an expanded location on Madison’s north side later this year.

In January, Johnson appealed to Walmart, owner of Sam’s Club, to donate the vacant Sam’s store on Watts Road to the Boys & Girls Club, but the company denied his request.
