McGrath Property Group has decided to put plans for a boutique hotel on hold while it re-evaluates the project.
According to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal, the proposed 45-room hotel project with ground-floor retail involved demolishing residential properties on the 500-block of East Washington Avenue and two homes on North Franklin Street, but has been challenged on many fronts — from height to design to concerns over the loss of historic buildings — even though it is considered permitted use in the Urban Mixed-Use District.
McGrath has already made several concessions in response.
