Blue Mounds dog breeder Ridglan Farms is facing possible legal action after refusing to settle a $55,000 civil forfeiture connected to hundreds of alleged violations of state animal welfare laws, WMTV15 reports.
The breeder supplies beagles for research purposes, and the facility has faced growing scrutiny from animal welfare groups, lawmakers and the public.
Ridglan had until 4:30 p.m. Friday to agree to the penalty, according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, which on Saturday said the facility declined the stipulation.
The case is now being referred to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.
The facility “denies the factual allegations and legal claims asserted in the matter,” according to a Ridglan spokesperson.
