In 2017, Bimbo Bakeries USA began a “major restructuring” and started closing some U.S. plants. This week, according to a channel3000.com report, 158 Madison employees were informed that the Bimbo bakery at 3401 E. Washington Ave. would be closing on Jan. 2, 2019, eliminating all but a few jobs.
A spokesperson for Bimbo Bakeries USA, which acquired Sara Lee Corp.’s North American fresh bakery unit in 2010, said the bread and bun operation will shift production to other Bimbo facilities.
