Those in need of a bicycle can now apply for one through Bikes for Kids Wisconsin through Dec. 15 for the spring 2026 Bike Giveaway Program.

“It’s critical to our mission to provide bikes to the youngest of riders because, if we don’t learn to ride as children, we may never learn to ride. Children with bikes grow into adults who bike,” Bikes for Kids Wisconsin Executive Director Kristie GoForth said in a statement.

The cost to distribute 2,000 bikes annually is approximately $280,000, even with the help of approximately 240 volunteers.

“We give away over 1,500 shop-quality bikes each year, each valued between $300 to $1,000. Refurbishing and repairing is costly, plus, they require significant space — just a few of the challenges that make it difficult for organizations tackling transportation barriers,” GoForth said. “Yet transportation is the key to everything in our car-dependent society.”
