Bids on a new Madison Fire Station No. 14 in the 3100 block of Dairy Drive came in well over the city’s estimated costs of $5.8 million.
The fire department had sought a simple design on a vacant lot, but roof and external elements reportedly ended up costing more than projected.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Miron Construction Co. had the lowest of three bids, at $6.39 million while the highest, $6.85 million, was submitted by Ideal Builders.
The city now has three options: rebid the project, seek an amendment to the 2018 budget, or take money from elsewhere in the fire department’s budget. Next steps are being discussed.
