Fitchburg-based BellBrook Labs has been awarded a $300,000 Phase I Small Business Innovative Research grant to develop and validate HTS assays for the discovery of small-molecule antagonists of TREX1, according to a release from the company. The research specifically applies to tumors that do not respond to existing agents. Evidence indicates that antagonists of TREX1, which aids DNA repair, could represent a new class of immune checkpoint blockers and have a fundamental impact on cancer treatment regimens.
