On a unanimous voice vote by Madison’s Board of Estimates, an alternate and more expensive plan from Beitler Real Estate Services of Chicago was recommended for downtown’s Judge Doyle Square project.
Beitler’s original $125 million plan included a 252-room hotel, 210 apartments, retail office space, and above-ground parking.
Mayor Paul Soglin broke an initial 3–3 tie on the decision to opt for the pricier, $170 million alternate plan that will add another 144 apartments and offer levels of underground parking. The public’s portion would be $43 million.
The Board of Estimates’ recommendation now moves on to the full City Council for review.
