Thousands of U.S. lawsuits between agrochemical maker Bayer and attorneys for cancer patients may be settled with a proposed $7.25 billion settlement, the Associated Press reports.

The lawsuits allege Bayer did not warn people that its weedkiller, Roundup, could cause cancer.

The settlement comes before the U.S. Supreme Court is preparing to hear arguments from Bayer stating that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s approval of Roundup without a cancer warning should invalidate the cancer claims filed in state courts.

The Supreme Court case would not be affected by the settlement.
