How thorough was Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s victory in the Democratic Party’s recall primary? He carried Dane County, Kathleen Falk’s home turf, with 62% of the vote.
Barrett, who carried his own home base of Milwaukee County with 72% of the vote, cruised to an easy victory and will face Gov. Scott Walker in the June 5 general election. He has already challenged Walker to four debates on job creation in what will be a rematch of the 2010 governor’s race.
In the Democratic primary, Barrett carried 67 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties, while Falk won 15 counties. In addition to claiming overwhelming victories in Dane and Milwaukee counties, Barrett carried Brown County (Green Bay) with 49% of the vote, Racine County with 61%, Kenosha County with 59%, Rock County (Janesville, Beloit) with 50%, and Eau Claire County with 51%.
Here are the most up-to-date statewide results:

Kathleen Falk 34%
Kathleen Veinhout 4%
Doug LaFollette 3%
Gladys Huber 1%
On the Republican side, the fact that Walker received 626,538 votes in a primary with token opposition is an indication of how enthusiastic GOP voters are about keeping him in office. Walker, who is considered a national hero to conservatives, defeated Barrett in 2010 with 1,128,951 votes, good for 52.29% of the vote. Barrett received 1,004,303 votes, good for 46.52%.
