A statewide legislative review of Wisconsin’s $28.1 million recycling program showed that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) failed to follow state law and its own rules, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
From 2015 to 2019, the DNR used more than $807,000 in funds appropriated for the administration of the recycling program and other related programs, but according to the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau, the agency failed to carry out required reviews of local recycling initiatives. The audit also found a failure by the DNR to analyze the results of its reviews to identify trends that could help municipalities troubleshoot problems.
