Daniel Rottier, president of Habush Habush & Rottier and a well-known trial lawyer, died on Jan. 3, according to a company press release. No cause of death was given.
Known for his expertise in medical malpractice and product liability cases, Rottier’s legal career spanned nearly five decades, bringing him to courts across the U.S., including the Supreme Court.
Rottier graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1976 and became one of the youngest fellows in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Over his career, he won numerous accolades, including two Trial Lawyer of the Year awards from the Wisconsin Association for Justice and induction into the Inner Circle of Advocates, a prestigious group limited to the top 100 plaintiff trial lawyers in the U.S.
Notably, Rottier secured over 90 settlements exceeding $1 million each, including 12 surpassing $10 million. He also played a key role in Wisconsin’s historic $5 billion Big Tobacco settlement.
Beyond the courtroom, Rottier served in leadership roles for legal organizations, taught trial advocacy at UW Law School, and lectured on trial techniques and litigation technology.
“Dan’s impact on trial law and product safety will be felt for generations,” said Robert Habush, the firm’s former president.
Rottier is survived by his wife, Frankie, and their four children.
