On a vote of 8–5, the Wisconsin Assembly Committee on Jobs and the Economy approved an incentive package to convince Taiwan-based Foxconn to locate its first U.S. plant in Wisconsin.

The vote advances Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to provide $3 billion in state tax credits, spend $20 million (after 2019) to train the workforce, and excuses the company from some environmental regulations.

Members of the state Senate argue the Assembly’s actions won’t matter because the entire bill, if passed this week by the full Assembly, must first go through the Senate and Joint Finance Committee, where further changes could be made.

Meanwhile, the state’s 2017–2019 budget is more than a month overdue and has been held up, in part, by the Foxconn issue.

Foxconn-specific directory available

In related news, the Wisconsin Supply Chain Marketplace, facilitated by the Wisconsin Regional Leadership Council, has designed a Foxconn-specific directory for companies seeking potential business opportunities with Foxconn, and the Madison Region Economic Partnership is encouraging businesses in MadREP’s eight-county region to take advantage.

The goal of the marketplace is to connect suppliers with buyers and allows businesses to highlight their capabilities and make new connections.

Businesses are always welcome to add company profiles to the Supply Chain Marketplace free of charge by clicking here.
