St. Louis-based Ascension, a health system with several Wisconsin hospitals and clinics, is investigating a cyberattack after detecting “unusual activity” on some network systems Wednesday, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
The “cybersecurity event” reportedly interrupted access to some technology systems, but it remains unclear whether or not hackers were able to access sensitive patient information.
Ascension is currently working to assess what information the breach may have affected and has said it will notify people affected if it determines sensitive information was exposed.
The news comes as cyberattacks on hospital systems continue to increase.
