The Wisconsin Policy Forum reports that COVID-19 has created huge challenges for artists and arts and cultural organizations in Wisconsin. The challenges these organizations face come after an already difficult pre-pandemic landscape of employment decline and decreasing state support in the industry.
Wisconsin allocates fewer state dollars per capita to arts and culture than any other state. The loss of arts and cultural experiences not only has negatively impacted the quality of life in Wisconsin, but it also has inflicted economic damage. Ticket sales have largely vanished while thousands of individuals who work in arts and culture have joined the ranks of the unemployed.
