The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced it has canceled the conference seasons and championships for its fall sports. WIAC is the conference that includes UW–Whitewater, UW–Oshkosh, and UW–Platteville, among others. Earlier this week, the NACC, home to Edgewood College, announced the postponement of its fall semester sports until spring.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) last week announced it will remain flexible and consider a number of season schedule models to maintain fall interscholastic opportunities for high school athletes, delaying the start of some sports, like football, by at least two weeks.
In a letter to fans of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Athletic Director Barry Alvarez stated that all UW athletics would be at risk if the football season is canceled due to COVID-19, which becomes increasingly likely as new cases continue to spike.
