In 2015, a jury decided that Apple owed the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) $234.3 million in a patent infringement case. Apple appealed and lost its case this past June, but things just got a lot worse for the technology giant.

U.S. District Judge William Conley, who presided over the original case and the appeal, increased the damages amount, noting that despite the 2015 verdict, Apple continued to infringe on UW’s patents through December 2016.

As a result, Conley slapped Apple with an additional $272 million in supplemental damages. The total now owed to WARF is $506 million, according to various reports.
