With a new Menards store going up on the bustling west side of Sun Prairie, two developers are hoping to convert adjacent land into about 1,000 apartments near the Prairie Lakes retail development.
T. Wall Enterprises is proposing one of Wisconsin’s first gated, multifamily development near the site, with nine four-story buildings that would include 760 apartments on about 41 acres along Hwy. 151. Wall’s proposal, still in the concept stage, would take 10 years to develop. City officials have voiced concerns about the development’s private road versus a public roadway, and the project’s density.
Continental Properties has proposed Springs at Sun Prairie which would include 12 two-story buildings with 228 apartment units on approximately 27 acres on another side of the new Menards store. It could be completed late in 2018. The Sun Prairie planning staff has already given a nod to this project.
The Menards construction could start this fall.
