Rather than opening a planned office, Madison-based American Family Insurance will sell a historic building near downtown Milwaukee, according to a BizTimesreport. The former Mandel printing building at 1311–1325 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was purchased by the company in 2019 for $2.9 million and was intended to house an office employing 400 American Family workers. Instead, the company plans to sell the five-story, 93,750-square-foot building built in 1909. The COVID-19 pandemic and an increase in hybrid and remote work caused the company to reevaluate office space needs in downtown Milwaukee.
