The state’s largest single rooftop solar installation is beginning right here in Madison, with American Family Insurance’s move toward rooftop solar panels.
Working with local commercial solar developer SunPeak, AmFam will install nearly 4,500 solar panels on its national headquarters building, which is expected to produce about 1.26 million kilowatts annually. That’s enough to power 122 average-sized homes, or 874,000 60-watt light bulbs for one day, according to a release.
The system is projected to offset 6% to 9% of the building’s electrical usage and save American Family approximately $191,000 in annual energy costs.
Installation will take between 60 and 90 days to complete.
