Reversing a 2017 decision that American Family Insurance agents are company employees, a federal appeals court ruled on a 2–1 vote that the agents are, in fact, independent contractors.
The news is good for American Family Insurance, which could have been on the hook for more than $1 billion in retirement benefits, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport.
