Wisconsin cheeses won the most gold medals at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest, earning 56 out of 90 awards, but a 200-pound Swiss wheel from Ohio took top honors. A brick cheese made in Arena (Mill Creek Cheese) was the first runner-up, and a medium cheddar from Kiel, Wis. (Land O’Lakes) was the second runner-up.
This year’s competition drew 1,892 entries from 28 states. New York state claimed the second most gold medals, taking seven awards, while the “land of happy cows,” California, won six.
