The American Red Cross and the Urban League of Greater Madison will hold a blood drive to help in the treatment of sickle cell patients, according to an announcement from the organizations. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Urban League of Greater Madison, 2222 S. Park St., Suite 200. Sickle cell patients depend on regular blood transfusions from African American blood donors to treat the effects of the disease, and donations are needed now to help ensure that treatments continue uninterrupted. As part of this drive, the American Red Cross is offering blood donors free health screenings at the event.
