A five-story, 3.4 million-square-foot distribution center is being planned for Cottage Grove by online retailer Amazon, according to a report from the Associated Press. The $200 million facility, planned for the intersection of County Highways N and TT, would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and employ 1,500 people. Construction on the project could begin as early as this year and the Cottage Grove village board and planning commission have given the project preliminary approval. A vote on the implementation plan is scheduled for later in February.

An official from Cottage Grove village administration said Amazon hasn’t asked for any tax assistance, and the facility would be an economic win for Cottage Grove and Dane County. Concerns from area residents include pollution, noise, and traffic. Amazon already operates distribution centers in Oak Creek, Beloit, and Kenosha.
