Peter DeSantis, Amazon’s top leader from its cloud division, is now in charge of AI projects, Bloomberg reports.
The news was revealed Wednesday in a message to employees and the company’s corporate blog.
Amazon’s Artificial General Intelligence team — overseeing Amazon’s Nova AI models and Alexa — will combine with Amazon’s chipmaking and quantum computing research.
Amazon’s cloud unit, Amazon Web Services, is currently the largest seller of rented computing power and data storage, according to Bloomberg.
However, Amazon aims to build more multipurpose AI tools as competitors like Microsoft and Google pursue the same goals.
Amazon also added Annapurna Labs, which it acquired in 2015, to the team in order to develop chips and AI-focused hardware.
