Amazon abandons Flock Safety partnership after backlash

Amazon and big tech’s steps toward a Big Brother world have been scuppered for now.

Amazon announced a partnership with police technology company Flock Safety, but backlash to a Super Bowl ad for the company led to termination of the partnership, CNBC reported.

The ad showed a “Search Party” feature utilizing AI to find lost pets. When turned on, the feature would scan footage from participating Ring cameras.

Flock is known for operating automated license plate readers, often used by law enforcement agencies.
