Alliant redevelopment committee weighs 10 proposals to modernize facilities

The Alliant Energy Center (AEC) redevelopment committee on Monday discussed a plan that would modernize entertainment, sports, and multiuse facilities, according to WKOW. A high-priority proposal would improve the exhibition hall, a project with a price tag of $175 million.

The main concern cited is funding, with some projects suggesting county investment and others requiring third-party partnerships.

The 10 proposals discussed include:

  • Expo hall expansion and related site improvements;

  • Development of a central plaza;

  • Development an indoor youth sports facility;

  • The sale of the owned land plot south of Rimrock Road or its utilization for future projects;

  • Development of an indoor pro soccer facility;

  • Creation of a multiuse entertainment arena;

  • Creation of more opportunities for private commercial development with a walkable AEC campus;

  • The addition of an additional parking structure;

  • Construction of an outdoor amphitheater; and

  • The design of a multiuse show ring, primarily for livestock.
