Alliant rate freeze criticized by environmental groups

Wisconsin regulators have approved a plan from Alliant Energy to freeze electricity and natural gas rates next year, but environmental groups fear the plan could be setting up a future rate hike for the company, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

The proposal was conditionally approved by consumer advocates but objections from the Sierra Club and Clean Wisconsin said Alliant was essentially sneaking through justification for a future rate hike under the guise of a pandemic response.
