Alliant Energy is planning six projects to add 414 megawatts to the company’s grid, according to a company release. The purchase and construction of the solar farms for a total of $515 million will allow the company to meet its goal of 1,000 megawatts of solar power in Wisconsin by 2023.

The additional 414 megawatts are enough to power approximately 100,000 homes for a year. The projects would need approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. The six projects are in addition to a request the company made last year to purchase land for about $900 million for six other projects under development by other companies totaling 675 megawatts. Alliant Energy solar investments will counteract closures of two coal-powered plants in Wisconsin.
