Following on the heels of an MG&E increase, Alliant Energy customers will also see rate increases as of Jan. 1 after the Public Service Commission unanimously approved 2017 rates.

Fixed charges for electric rates will jump from $7.67 a month to $15, part of an 0.83% rate hike, with the average electric bill increasing about $4.83 a month for residential customers.

Natural gas rates will increase 12.8%, according to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal, with an average residence seeing about a $3.47 increase on their monthly bill.

Business rates will see a slight decline.
